Do you hold a valid, professional chaperone licence? Do you have experience of chaperoning children within a theatre or school boarding environment? Have you worked with children aged between 9-12?

We are looking for House Parents to ensure the safety and well-being of the children whilst in our care, making sure they are properly supervised, have adequate meals and sufficient rest and recreation during their time performing in The BFG. This will be a weekly part-time job share, with 3-4 days of 24 hour care, followed by 3-4 days off duty.

You must have a valid, professional chaperone licence to be eligible and be available for the entire run of the show from 27 October 2025 until 8 February 2026.

Reporting to the Lead Chaperone/Children's Planning Manager, key duties and responsibilities will include (please see the job description and person specification for the comprehensive list):

  • Working with the Lead Chaperone to schedule and take responsibility for the logistics of the children boarding with the RSC, including accompanying the children to or from train stations, or to the theatre or rehearsal room.
  • Ensuring compliance with the necessary legislation and the RSC's Safeguarding Policy, raising any issues or concerns with your line manager
  • Ensuring the children are behaving in a respectful and professional manner in RSC venues
  • Preparing adequate meals for the children and maintaining cleanliness standards of the accommodation
  • Ensuring the children get sufficient rest and recreation
  • Completing a daily log of any points to note, incidents or concerns

To be suitable for this position it is essential that you have:

  • A valid, professional chaperone licence.
  • Experience of working within a theatre environment.
  • Knowledge of regulatory requirements in relation to the duties of chaperoning.
  • Experience of working with children aged between 9-12.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • A flexible, friendly and approachable manner.

The residential property is in Stratford-upon-Avon, however House Parents will be expected to travel young performers to and from a London station via train at the start and end of their residential week.

The contract will be a split week with another House Parent and will involve a mid-week switch. The pay will be determined on a 24 hour shift basis and will be paid weekly.

Under the Equality Act 2010 an occupational requirement applies for this role due to "Considerations of privacy or decency which might require a public changing room or lavatory attendant to be of the same sex as those using the facilities"
