The Falmouth Hotel is one of Cornwall’s best located hotels situated opposite Castle Beach with a spectacular view over the Falmouth Bay! The hotel consists of over 71 bedrooms forming different individual styles and views, along with our Castle View Restaurant & Bar, Leisure & Spa Facilities with indoor swimming pool along various events spaces which accommodates meetings, weddings and events. The hotel following a recent takeover is now part of The Cornwall Hotel Collection and operates alongside The Greenbank Hotel in Falmouth and The Alverton Hotel in Truro.
Now under local ownership after 20 years we are working hard to develop the hotel and as such a development plan for The Falmouth Hotel new chapter is very much underway, with this in mind and with the growth and development of the business we are now looking for hospitality individuals to join us on our journey as we embark on our new beginnings. As part of our recruitment plans we are now looking to recruit a Hotel Night Porter on a full time basis working to the needs of the business, generally 4/5 days over 7.
Our team of porters are a vital cog in the day-to-day running of the hotel. From a warm welcome to our guests on arrival, providing support for the reception team, helping guests with their luggage, delivering room service, assisting our maintenance team, each day is different as a porter.

The porter role is a physical job which will require speed, strength and efficiency.
You must have great customer service skills and be able to think on your feet to always ensure we do our best to help the customers.
The ideal candidate will have excellent communication skills, a positive ‘can-do’ attitude and the ability to develop good working relationships with staff members.
Night Porter: Duties include -
- Security of building & guests
- Setting up restaurant for breakfast
- Serving drinks in the bar & glass washing
- Cleaning all public areas
- Taking telephone calls & reservation details
- Must be customer service focused. We are looking for someone who is able to work from 10pm until 7am approx. Your duties will include keeping the outside and public areas of the hotel clean and tidy as well as preparing for the following day’s events within the event spaces. This will include setting tables, tidying and general maintenance as well as any guests needs throughout the night.
Ensure good communication with all departments throughout the hotel.
- Handle, follow up and communicate any comments or complaints to the duty managers.
- Be familiar with and promote hotel facilities. Assist guests with any requests e.g. information, making bookings, directions.
- Ensure that all tasks are completed on each shift that a full and thorough handover takes place at the end of the shift.
- Ensure you have a well-founded understanding of all hotel regulations.
- Tour all areas of the hotel on a regular basis and report irregularities to relevant department heads.
- Ensure all access to the hotel is secure as required by hotel policy and procedure.
- Perform any related security duties as required overnight.
- Complete all incident reports and distribute to relevant departments.
- Record any unusual occurrences or problems arising to the Duty Manager and take appropriate action.
- As a team, ensure that guest areas and offices are clean and tidy at all times.
- Ensure that wake up calls are made promptly.
- Order and deliver newspapers.
- Be fully aware of all daily and weekly events in the hotel.
- Serve guests at the resident night bar ensuring accuracy by checking keys and having guest to sign bill.
- Report any faulty equipment to the relevant persons.
- Be familiar with current licensing regulations.
- Report for duty punctually in the correct uniform, paying attention to personal hygiene and tidiness.
- Help to maintain a good working environment within the department and good working relationships with all other departments in the hotel.
- Give assistance to other departments as and when necessary.
- Carry out any other reasonable requests made by the on General Manager or Duty managers.
- Be responsible for night health & safety and fire evacuations procedures.
Flexibility on hours required, ideally the role would suit a full time employee however part time will also be considered. Weekends and seasonal holiday working patterns form part of this role. Salary to be discussed upon background and experience at the interview stage.
