We are now looking for a Higher-Level Learning Support Practitioner to join our team on a part-time, term-time only contract and support young people aged 16 to 24 to achieve and succeed into adult life and beyond through education. This role will be based in Redruth and role is 19.5 hours per week, working hours from 9.15 to 16.30.

The Role
As a Higher-Level Learning Support Practitioner, you will join our small team working with young adults on our educational programme. You will support individual or small groups of learners in the achievement of their learning goals and the development of independent life and employability skills. This will include the learner’s English, Maths and IT skills as well as supporting them in their vocational studies and going with them to work experience placements.
You will support learners with communication, behaviour, emotional difficulties and social anxiety, as well as personal care, and personal hygiene needs. You will support learners with complex needs, which may include learning needs and range through to challenging behaviours and needs centered around social, emotional and mental health.
You will be actively and regularly involved in the reviews of a learner’s support plan, taking into account the learner’s progress and any changes to the learner’s own ambitions and aspirations, which may lead to changes in the type and level of their support. You will aim to work with learners to develop independent study skills and strategies to assist in their own learning. You will support the learner’s journey through administrative tasks associated with the classroom environment.
About You
To join us as a Higher-Level Learning Support Practitioner, you will need:
- A commitment to inclusive learning and a willingness to gain an understanding of students with Special Education Needs
- Experience of working with learners with complex needs
- A sensitive and caring approach to learners
- Good communication and written skills
- To be an effective team worker but able to work on your own initiative
- To be able to adapt quickly to changing priorities
- The ability to work with learners in groups
- To be competent in IT
- At a minimum, a Level 2 or above in English and Maths or equivalent, or be willing to work towards these qualifications.
Experience in supporting/working with learners with learning difficulties and/or disabilities is essential.
A full driving licence and access to your own vehicle would also be desirable.
Placement in this role will be subject to receipt of two satisfactory references and a Disclosure Barring Service (DBS) check.
This is a part-time role working 19.5 hours per week on a term-time only contract. This contract will start in September 2025 and is initially a fixed-term contract to 31st August 2026.
Some flexibility to work evenings and weekends will be required, as will the ability to travel to different locations at short notice.
