P&O Ferries are recruiting a Head of Accounting & Reporting to join our Finance team based at our office in Woking on a 6 month fixed term contract .

The Head of Accounting & Reporting will be responsible for supporting the Finance Director with all internal and external financial accounting and reporting requirements, performing detailed first reviews ahead of the FD, ensuring accuracy, timeliness and integrity of all financial reporting.

Contract type: fixed term for 6 months
Key responsibilities:
Leading and reviewing reporting to shareholders incl. submission of monthly accounts, consolidation and relevant analysis
Lead on other monthly reporting required by external stakeholders (eg banks, pension schemes, credit insurers etc.)
Oversight and review of preparation of UK statutory accounts
Oversight and review of European statutory accounting
Support balance sheet and cashflow forecasting, ownership of the consolidated balance sheet and cash flow for the Group
Manage the external audit process, owning the relationship with the auditors, reviewing audit specific requests and resolving technical accounting matters
Manage financial aspects of internal audit reviews and findings
Lead role on sustainability and other ESG reporting
Management and oversight of the Financial Accounting and Reporting team, comprising 3 individuals, as well as management of finance systems and financial compliance manager
Member of the Finance senior management team, working closely with other senior managers and their respective teams, to deliver support to the wider business.
Contributing to the management and development of the accounting and financial reporting IT systems throughout the Finance Department
Supporting all internal governance reporting
Ensuring compliance with all other statutory type reporting (e.g. payment reporting, relevant statistical reporting)
Transformation of the finance function, supporting the FD with process improvements, suggesting improved controls for various processes throughout the business
Ensure proper application of accounting policies, continuously monitoring the appropriate accounting application and propose corrections and remediations where necessary
Drive continuous improvements in financial controls, processes and systems
Act as the key technical accounting expert and trusted advisor for accounting matters with the team and various stakeholders
Partner with business units and functional teams to ensure accurate reporting and alignment
Key skills & experience:
Qualified accountant (ACA or equivalent) with strong technical grounding
Minimum 5 years PQE
Good knowledge of IFRS, UK GAAP and ability to apply technical standards in practice
Demonstrate experience of managing audits and working with external auditors
Attention to detail and ability to identify and resolve discrepancies timely
Strong leadership skills with experience of managing developing teams
Excellent analytical, problem solving and communication skills
Proficiency in finance systems preferred but not essential
Proactive and solutions focused, with ability to manage complexity
Resilient under pressure, with strong organizational and prioritization skills
Collaborative nature and approach to dealing with stakeholders
