Broxtowe Borough Council is committed to providing the highest quality of service in cemeteries and church yards across the borough. Our highly experienced cemeteries maintenance team is responsible for general landscaping and grounds maintenance as well as preparing and maintaining burial plots at our cemeteries and the crematorium. We are seeking an experienced, highly motivated Grave Digger/ Gardener to join this team.
On a day-to-day basis, the successful candidate will be providing a broad range of grounds maintenance and landscaping services including mowing, strimming, hedge trimming, seeding turf and grading. The team prides itself on delivering superior landscapes. Attention to detail and a commitment to delivering the highest standards is critical in this role.
The preparation of burial plots utilising a range of tools and equipment is an important part of this role and duties may include hand digging, shoring, and backfilling as well as operating mechanised equipment. Our team interacts frequently with the public while performing these duties in a respectful and sensitive environment and so excellent customer service skills are required as well as a strong commitment to public safety.
We’re looking for an individual who has experience in:
· Excavating graves to required sizes either by mechanically operating hand tools and plant or by hand.
· Backfilling graves using appropriate tools and equipment.
· Undertaking general grounds maintenance work including all routine, horticultural and maintenance tasks.
· Operating standard horticultural equipment together with powered hand tools and light plant.
· Safe application of pesticides using handheld equipment (PA1 PA6 certification)
· Working in a high visibility and sensitive environment.
The ideal candidate would:
- Be a strong team player with a commitment to quality work and getting the job done.
- Be certified by an accredited institution in grounds maintenance related areas.
· Have a current driving licence and ability to drive a light commercial vehicle (Class B)
· Be committed to work outside in all weather conditions
