Northern Trust is looking for a highly skilled and motivated individual to lead the management, of AML/KYC Governance matters for our First Line of Defence (1LOD) Anti-Money Laundering (AML)/Know Your Customer (KYC) function across the enterprise. This position will report directly to the Global Head of AML/KYC – First Line of Defence, within the office of the Chief Operating Officer (COO).
The Head of AML/KYC Governance – First Line of Defence will be responsible to stand up the AML/KYC Governance Team within the Center of Expertise, and to implement and oversee all 1LOD AML/KYC Governance matters across the enterprise, ensuring the Center of Expertise maintains a consistent, sustainable, high quality operating model.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Design and implement the Governance Framework to be deployed in the Center of Excellence and to implement controls and testing to ensuring its ongoing effectiveness and Compliance with Enterprise wide policies and standards.
  • Provide a Quality control function to perform periodic testing of all KYC activities undertaken by the Center of Excellence to provide assurance as to its quality, effectiveness and sustainability. Identifying, analysing and managing any risks. Ensuring all risks are recorded, and oversee steps taken to ensure they are mitigated to an acceptable level within Northern Trusts risk appetite.
  • Strengthen Northern Trust’s AML/KYC risk posture by assessing and demonstrating clear ownership of (identified) issues and associated risks, exercising discipline in risk management processes, and delivering on heightened regulatory requirements through risk mitigation techniques that ensure accuracy and completeness of AML/KYC records through a robust risk and issues management process.
  • Stand up and lead the 1LOD AML/KYC Working Group. Collaborating with key stakeholders across the enterprise to work together on key tactical matters, as well as the discussion of strategic matters impacting 1LOD AML/KYC risk mitigation activities. This Working Group is stood up to provide a forum outside of the formal Committees to which matters may be escalated or received for discussion.
  • Manage all outsourcing matters for and on behalf of the AML/KYC Center of Excellence, providing the necessary information and forums for executing upon outsourcing obligations.
  • Recruit, manage, develop, and coach team of AML/KYC Governance experts to ensure performance against team, Business Unit, and firm goals through the implementation of high governance processes.
  • Ensure effective communication (including escalation) of all Money Laundering risks and issues through building and maintaining a direct and robust relationship with Business Unit and corporate function representatives to agree upon and manage risks and issues in accordance with enterprise processes (ie RCSA , EWRA etc..).
  • Working with the Head of Program Management to provide commentary on global status reporting of all activities undertake by the Center of Excellence for distributing as part of Governance and oversight responsibilities.
  • Work with the Global Head of AML/KYC – First Line of Defence to drive the business plan and budgets for the Center of Excellence in line with Enterprise Goals.
Qualifications:
  • A college or university degree and/or relevant proven work experience.
  • Prior experience in financial services; well versed in regulatory and statutory requirements for a G-SIB, preferred.
  • Advanced knowledge of AML/KYC/financial crimes regulations and processes.
  • Transformation mindset, experienced in consolidation of disparate teams and functions to create one Center of Expertise and continuously mature the operating model to best in class.
  • Highly collaborative, with leadership qualities to influence positively and productively at all levels of the organization, with clients, and regulators.
  • Proven ability to effectively lead and assume accountability for a multi-jurisdictional team to achieve organizational goals.
  • Experienced with embedding resiliency in all facets of the end-to-end AML/KYC process to ensure continuity and heightened confidence.
  • Significant experience in identifying, designing, building, and implementing end-to-end workflow leveraging technology, process improvements, and industry best practices.
  • Accomplished change leader, driving efficiency toward achieving operational scale while maintaining and improving organizational risk posture.
