About Us
Derek Merson’s are a well-established, family-run garage that has been proudly serving the Minehead and West Somerset community for over 50 years. We're built on a foundation of trust, honesty, and excellent customer service. We're not a big, faceless dealership; we're a close-knit team that knows our customers by name and treats every vehicle as if it were our own.
Due to our loyal customer base and growing demand, we're looking for a friendly, organised, and professional Service Advisor to be the welcoming face and organisational hub of our busy workshop.
The Role
As our Service Advisor, you will be the crucial link between our customers and our skilled technicians. You'll be responsible for ensuring a smooth and positive experience for every person who contacts us. Your day-to-day duties will include:
- Being the first point of contact for our valued customers, both in person and over the phone.
- Listening carefully to customers to understand their vehicle's issues and accurately recording the details.
- Managing the workshop diary, scheduling appointments, and ensuring a steady, efficient workflow.
- Translating customer needs into clear, concise job cards for our technical team.
- Keeping customers updated on the progress of their vehicle, explaining any required work clearly and without jargon.
- Preparing and explaining invoices, processing payments, and handling associated administrative tasks.
Who We're Looking For
The ideal candidate will be a real 'people person' with a passion for great customer service. You should be:
- Experienced: You'll have previous experience as a Service Advisor or in a similar customer-facing role within the automotive industry.
- An Excellent Communicator: You can build rapport easily and explain things clearly and patiently.
- Highly Organised: You can juggle phone calls, bookings, and paperwork without breaking a sweat.
- Problem-Solver: You have a can-do attitude and can think on your feet.
- IT Literate: You are comfortable using computers for booking and invoicing (experience with garage management software is a plus, but not essential).
- Team Player: You enjoy working as part of a small, supportive team.
- A basic technical understanding of vehicles would be a significant advantage.
- A full UK manual driving licence is required.
What We Offer
- A competitive salary, negotiable based on your experience.
- Standard working hours: Monday – Friday, 8:30 am to 5:00 pm (additional hours on Saturday’s are possible).
- A friendly, down-to-earth, and supportive work environment where you are a valued member of the team, not just a number.
- Company pension scheme.
- 28 days holiday per year (including Bank Holidays).
Job Types: Full-time, Permanent
Pay: From £13.50 per hour
Expected hours: No less than 40 per week
