University of Greenwich
£32,080 - £37,694 a year
Medway, England

In 2024, the University introduced the role of Faculty Student Advisor to enhance our pastoral support for students. As part of this initiative, we’re looking for a dedicated individual to join the Faculty of Engineering and Science team at our Medway campus.

In this role, you’ll collaborate closely with Academic Tutors, Faculty Senior Tutors, and Year Tutors (where applicable) to support students throughout their academic journey. Your guidance will help students make the most of their university experience and contribute to our strategic goal of delivering an outstanding student experience.

About the role

In this role you will be the first point of contact for students struggling with academic or personal issues or who have informal complaints. You will provide pastoral support, resolve issues within your control, and signpost students where appropriate to other sources of support, including via the Digital Student Centre and to academic support via Academic Tutors or Programme Leaders. You will coordinate and maintain student support through initiatives like short appointments, drop-in sessions, online support, and follow-up. Within your faculty team, you will work to ensure continuity of support to all faculty students, identify enhancements to the service, and assist with key university processes as required.

Duties and responsibilities will typically include working as part of a team to:

  • Provide student pastoral support, as part of a faculty team, signposting to other services where appropriate and following up to ensure satisfactory resolution.
  • Identify improvements to the effectiveness and efficiency of the Faculty Student Advisor Service and take a lead in implementing these.
  • Assist when required with key University wide processes as required for example, clearing, enrolment and graduation.
  • Use University systems, to ensure informal complaints are logged and followed up to satisfactory resolution.

About you

You will have relevant experience in a guidance/supportive role, extensive administrative experience and experience of working to senior colleagues with conflicting demands. You will understand diversity and equality issues, have excellent interpersonal skills, and an ability to communicate effectively at all levels. You will have excellent knowledge of Microsoft office, will be able to prioritise and manage your own workload, plan and manage projects, have excellent attention to detail and take an analytical and systematic approach to work. You will be a team player, able to work well under pressure and able to be highly discrete, maintaining a high level of confidentiality. You will have a commitment to undertaking professional development and a desire to develop in the role. You will have a degree, professional qualification or extensive proven relevant experience.
