Environmental Systems & Data Officer

Are you passionate about digital transformation, data systems, and sustainability? Join St Helens Borough Council as an Environmental Systems & Data Officer and help modernise and enhance the delivery of vital environmental services across the Borough.

We are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Environmental Systems & Data Officer to join our Environment & Climate Team. This is a fantastic opportunity to play a key role in supporting the Council’s environmental objectives through the effective management of data, digital tools, and performance systems. We are flexible about your experience. You may be a new graduate, or experienced in waste, recycling, and/or working with data. Whatever your background, you’ll be interested in the environment and making a positive difference!


What You’ll Be Doing

  • Support the digitisation and modernisation of ICT systems across environmental operational services.
  • Implement new digital tools to improve service delivery, efficiency, and customer experience.
  • Manage and analyse performance data, including waste collection, recycling, and service KPIs.
  • Oversee the garden waste subscription service, including customer support and permit administration.
  • Support and develop commercial environmental services for local businesses and schools.
  • Maintain accurate records and ensure compliance with Duty of Care legislation.
  • Use data to design and optimise waste and recycling collection rounds.
  • Manage and improve in-cab technology and other digital systems used by operational teams.
  • Provide training and support to staff on new systems and software.
  • Respond to service performance data and customer feedback to drive continuous improvement.
  • Promote environmental services through digital marketing and community engagement.

What You’ll Bring:

  • Experience with digital systems and databases.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret and report on complex data.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • A proactive, collaborative approach to problem-solving and innovation.
  • Knowledge of environmental services, sustainability, and local government operations is a plus.
