Are you an experienced enforcement professional looking for a new challenge within a dynamic and supportive working environment? The Public Protection Service Trading Standards Team is part of the Public Protection Partnership, a shared service covering West Berkshire, Bracknell Forest and Wokingham councils, hosted by West Berkshire Council. The team is seeking an Enforcement Officer to join our dedicated team, working alongside the Trading Standards Officers to deliver high-quality enforcement services to our local community.
The Role
As an Enforcement Officer, you will play a crucial role in supporting the Trading Standards Service in the enforcement of consumer protection legislation. Your key responsibilities will include:
- Conducting inspections and investigations to ensure compliance with relevant legislation
- Gathering evidence and preparing comprehensive case files for legal proceedings
- Advising and educating businesses and consumers on their rights and responsibilities
- Collaborating with other enforcement agencies to tackle issues such as illegal trading and counterfeit goods
- Attending court hearings as a witness and providing accurate testimony
In addition to Trading Standards, you will also be involved in the enforcement of other areas such as:
- Environmental Health
- Licensing
The Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate will possess the following skills and attributes:
- Experience working in an enforcement role, ideally within a local authority or regulatory environment
- Sound knowledge of relevant legislation, including Trading Standards, Environmental Health, Licensing and Planning
- Excellent investigative and analytical skills, with the ability to gather and assess evidence
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to engage with a diverse range of stakeholders
- Ability to work independently, prioritising tasks effectively to meet deadlines
- Team player, with the ability to collaborate and build positive working relationships
In addition, you should hold a relevant professional qualification or have equivalent experience in an enforcement role.
