Job Description


This position is responsible for performing comprehensive industrial measurement surveys of the ship and in-process manufactured/assembled structures, components, and assemblies. They will utilise industrial measurement equipment for precision setting, alignment of structures, weapons system foundations, machinery foundations and other specialised pieces. The Dimensional Control Surveyor will perform a variety of accuracy control activities to guide measurement surveys as well as develop accuracy control packages to collect data to predict and reduce the variability of fabricated, machined and assembled products through the interim stages of shipbuilding and manufacturing processes.


Duties and Responsibilities

  • Ensure precise alignment and integrity in the construction of of fabrications and vessels, and in-process manufactured/assembled structures, components, and assemblies.
  • Undertake dimensional checks and verifications to client specifications, ensuring any non-conformances are appropriately recorded.
  • Provide information and guidance as required on inspection, measurement test equipment and material handling.
  • Carry out visual and performance testing of finished work.
  • Review tolerances and advise on any revisions needed to construction methods
  • Work alongside engineers, welders, and other professionals in shipyards and fabrication workshops to maintain the highest standards of construction.
  • Identify, assess, and implement process improvements.
  • Ensure all equipment is maintained and up to date for calibration etc
  • Must abide by and enforce all organisational policies and procedures. The individual must have a working knowledge of all company and regulated safety and environmental regulations, processes, procedures, and company policies and perform the supervisory functions in compliance with all of the above.
  • All work to be carried out in line with H&W Safe Operating Procedures and Risk Assessments.
  • Proactive identification and recording of any workplace risks for recertification.
  • Ensure appropriate PPE is worn in site areas where any construction/fabrication or related activities are taking place.
  • Reporting of all Incidents, Accidents or Asset Damage.
  • Must be able to work in confined and challenging locations in ships.
  • Employee is regularly required to stand; walk; climb stairs and ladders; reach with hands and arms; kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk or hear.
  • The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.


Qualifications


Qualifications

  • Relevant Degree or experience in an appropriate field


Experience

  • Two or more years' experience surveying fabricated structures or vessels
  • Knowledge of welding, assembly procedures, and erection sequence.
  • Knowledge of structural design.
  • Ability to interpret drawings and CAD model
  • Surveying experience


Skills/Competencies

  • Familiarity with shipbuilding practices preferred.
  • Competent user of Surveying Instruments (Total Stations, Theodolites, Precision Levels), and AutoCAD.
  • A detail-oriented individual committed to accuracy, even in challenging environments.
  • A fast learner with a strong desire to explore the intricacies of dimensional control and metrology.
  • A collaborative team player with excellent communication skills, capable of translating complex data into actionable insights.
  • Competent Microsoft Office user
  • Must have strong Microsoft Office Suites computer skills.
  • Must have strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Must have the ability to maintain a professional demeanour.
