Description:

The City of London Police are recruiting for a Crime Scene Investigator to join the Scenes of Crime Department within Forensic Services.

Forensic Services is an integral resource for the Force to respond to all crime types, critical incidents and provide crime scene management capability.

The role will include the identification and recovery of forensic evidence from a wide range of potential crime scenes, together with specialist photography. You will be expected to maximise opportunities for forensic intelligence in support of the National Intelligence Model. Working with deceased persons and attending post-mortems is also a role requirement.

The Scenes of Crime Department is a multi-disciplined unit. In addition to carrying out forensic scene examinations, CSI’s will be expected to review and assess all forensic submissions made by investigation units as well as involvement in ISO accreditation activities, including internal auditing. They will also undertake victim and exhibit photography along with evidential drug testing.

Essential Criteria:

You will be required to undertake forensic investigations of crime scenes, as either an individual or as part of a team. You will be able to present this evidence at court as a police specialist, together with being a part of the centre of excellence and best practice in this field within the organisation.

The successful applicant must be able to demonstrate high levels of commitment, self-motivation, and determination in addition to having a good standard of IT skills.

You will be expected to provide a mixture of day, night and on call shift cover to the organisation which will necessitate working lengths of time unsupervised and single crewed, and therefore be highly adaptable, a challenge solver and confident in your judgement.

Experience in working with a logical, methodical manner, even when under pressure.

The ability to communicate effectively across all elements of the organisation is paramount.

You will need to be aware that the work undertaken by staff in this role can often give exposure to traumatic scenes for protracted periods.

A clean driving license is essential, as is knowledge and experience around the science of forensic applications, photography and the management of exhibits.

Desirable Criteria:

A National Qualification Standard in Crime Scene Investigation.

Experience of working within an ISO 17020 accredited environment

. Applicants who fail to address the knowledge/skills experience of the job description will not be considered

The criteria for the interview process will be structured around the Policing Professional Framework (PPF) testing candidates against the Personal Qualities contained within the PPF profile.
