- This role provides the opportunity for hybrid working, allowing you to work either from home, subject to managerial approval, or from one of our offices.

What will I be doing?
We’re working to improve the lives of people in Somerset – and you’ll be a key part of that. As a County Highways Arboriculturist you will contributing to the provision of a highway tree inspection and management service to the public by applying a uniform and consistent approach. You will embrace a culture of customer care to ensure successful delivery of quality tree management.
Your day-to-day work will involve:
- Managing all highway tree management, inspections and maintenance, including establishing policies and procedures and Health and Safety.
- Managing the Highway Trees Project and being responsible for a £1m works budget which is allocated for the tree maintenance works.
- Managing a team of 3 staff, direct, supervise and train staff and undertake regular performance reviews.
- Providing arboriculture advice within the service and liaise with Highways and Development control on the adoption of new landscaped areas.

What kind of experience or qualifications do I need?
We offer ongoing support, training and guidance to help you be the best you can be. But it will really help if you have:
- Level 6 professional qualification in arboriculture or equivalent level of experience.
- Professional tree inspection qualification.
- The ability to travel independently to areas that may not be covered by public transport.
- 5 years’ experience of professional experience post qualification of tree assessment prescribing appropriate Arboricultural management.
- Knowledge of tree related legislation and law.
- Knowledge of pests, diseases and planning process related to trees.

The Salary for the role is Grade 9, ranging from £41,771 to £46,142 per annum.
