Brockwood Park is run by the registered charity, Krishnamurti Foundation Trust. Two schools, a Study Centre and the Foundation operate under the charity in 39 acres of beautiful grounds, 5 minutes’ drive from the villages of Bramdean and West Meon.
Brockwood Park School is an independent boarding school with 70 students aged 14–19 from all over the world. Inwoods Small School is a day school for infants up to 9 years of age. The Study Centre is an adult guest retreat accommodating those interested in J. Krishnamurti.
We are looking for a cook to join our dynamic kitchen team to prepare fresh, healthy, and seasonal vegetarian meals. Brockwood is a vegetarian school and always has been, so a passion for vegetarian cuisine is important. This role requires initiative, attention to detail, and the ability to produce high-quality food in a friendly and fast-paced environment.
We welcome applications from experienced cooks and those new to professional cooking who are confident in preparing meals independently and passionate about vegetarian cuisine.
Responsibilities
- Prepare and cook meals to the agreed menus and standards set by the Trust
- Ensure meals are of an excellent standard while staying within budget and minimising waste
- Adapt dishes using seasonal produce and dietary requirements
- Maintain high standards of food hygiene and safety
- Clean and wash kitchen and service items efficiently
Main Criteria for the Role
- NVQ Level 2 in Catering or equivalent experience (preferred but not essential)
- Confidence in producing meals independently (with training provided if needed)
- Knowledge and passion for vegetarian cooking
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
- High personal hygiene standards and excellent communication skills
- Polite and courteous communicator with the ability to build and maintain strong relationships
- Routine communication with emails
- You may be expected to carry out other reasonable duties that are asked of you besides these associated with your main duties
Terms of Employment
- Working days: Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 8:00 am to 2:00 pm (Later finish and one more working day available)
- Pay rate: £14 per hour
- Pro-rata of 5.6 weeks holiday (28 days) to be taken in agreement with the Line Manager
- Vegetarian lunch provided free of charge (30 min unpaid break) during the term time
