Applicants must have full GMC Registration, a license to practise and eligible for inclusion in the GMC Specialist Register. Those trained in the UK should have evidence of higher specialist training leading to CCT or be within 6 months of confirmed entry from the date of interview. Portfolio Pathway (formerly known as CESR - Certificate of Eligibility for Specialist Registration) route doctors are only eligible to apply for a substantive consultant post once it has been awarded. Non-UK applicants must demonstrate equivalent training.

For specific types of post, if you do not have the necessary eligibility to work in the UK, it might be possible (though not guaranteed) to secure sponsorship via a UK Skilled Worker/Health & Care Worker Visa. However, this is only possible if the employer is a licenced Sponsor, and if the post does not fall below the current minimum salary threshold or ‘going rate’. This is a substantive consultant post for a paediatric surgeon with an interest in colorectal surgery. There me be outreach sessions in NHS Lothian facilities at St John’s Hospital, Livingston, Leith Treatment Centre, Roodlands Hospital, Haddington or alternative regional hubs in the future. The successful candidate will be required to share the general paediatric surgical workload, including out of hours cover. There is an on-call commitment at 1 in 6 weeks and 1 in 8 weekends with prospective cover.
