Job Summary:
As a Residential Childcare Worker, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality care and support to children and young people residing in our residential facilities. Your primary responsibility will be to ensure the well-being, safety, and development of the children, while creating a nurturing and homely environment. Working as part of a team, you will build positive relationships, implement care plans, and facilitate engaging activities to promote their growth and positive outcomes.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Provide day-to-day care and support to children and young people in a residential setting, ensuring their safety, well-being, and physical and emotional needs are met.
2. Build positive relationships with the children, establishing trust and promoting a sense of belonging and security.
3. Implement individual care plans and support strategies, collaborating with colleagues and relevant professionals to meet the specific needs and goals of each child.
4. Create a nurturing and stimulating environment, organising and facilitating age-appropriate activities, outings, and recreational opportunities.
5. Support children in their daily routines, including meals, personal hygiene, schoolwork, and leisure activities, encouraging independence and life skills development.
6. Observe and document significant information, incidents, and progress in written reports and contribute to the overall assessment and evaluation process.
7. Collaborate with colleagues, therapists, and external professionals to provide comprehensive care, ensuring effective communication and coordination of support services.
8. Promote and maintain a safe and secure environment, implementing safeguarding procedures, risk assessments, and health and safety guidelines.
9. Actively seek to build strong relationships with our young people and promote the development and maintenance of positive relationships as an important life skill
10. Support children in developing positive social skills, emotional regulation, and conflict resolution techniques, providing guidance and role modelling appropriate behaviour.
11. Participate in teamwork and professional development that helps foster a creative and collaborative team culture in the pursuit of high-quality child centred care.
12. Attend relevant training and professional development sessions to enhance your knowledge and skills in working with children and young people in a residential setting.
Qualifications/Skills/Experience Person Specification:
- QCF 3 (Desirable).
- Completion / working towards completion of QCF level 3 within the regulatory 2 year requirement (Essential).
- Prior experience working with children and young people, preferably in a residential care or childcare setting.
- Sound understanding of child development principles, attachment theory, and trauma-informed care approaches.
- Ability to engage with children from diverse backgrounds, demonstrating empathy, patience, and resilience.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport and establish positive relationships with children, colleagues, and external professionals.
- Flexibility and adaptability to work shifts, including evenings, weekends, and public holidays as required in a residential care setting.
- Basic knowledge of relevant legislation, regulations, and safeguarding procedures related to residential childcare.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team, collaborating and sharing information to ensure consistent care provision.
- Good organisational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple responsibilities.
- A valid driver's license may be required for certain positions.
