CCTV Operator – Community Safety
Location: Islington Area
Hours: Full-time, Shift patterns, 4 on 4 off
Salary: £14.99 per/hr
Entitlement: 28 days including Bank Holidays based on accrual system and paid pro rata according to hours worked

About the Role:
We are seeking a vigilant and responsible CCTV Operator to join our Community Safety Team. In this vital role, you will monitor live CCTV footage, identify incidents, and support emergency services to maintain the safety and security of the public spaces. You will be the "eyes" of the community, helping to prevent crime, support vulnerable individuals, and provide critical evidence for enforcement actions.

The role requires applicants to work a shift pattern that incorporates a rolling rota covering both days, nights, weekends and bank holidays.
Applicants are drawn to the fact that this role involves being seated for the duration of their shift and the use of CCTV screens and monitors throughout the shift.
Key Responsibilities:
- Monitor and patrol multiple CCTV surveillance cameras across public spaces and council facilities and assist Metropolitan Police.
- Identify and report incidents such as anti-social behaviour, criminal activities, and public safety hazards.
- Generate concise and detailed reports on incidents observed.
- Interact with the Police using a radio and field phone calls and address requests for footage.
- Conduct footage downloads, complete evidence statements and potentially attend court if required as a witness.
- Liaise directly with police, emergency services, and community patrol teams.
- Maintain detailed incident logs and produce high-quality evidential footage when required.
- Operate within GDPR, the Surveillance Camera Code of Practice, internal assignment instructions and local authority guidelines.
- Assist in safeguarding vulnerable persons (missing persons or individuals at risk).
- Conduct system checks and report technical faults promptly.
- Potentially, some driving duties of a CCTV surveillance vehicle.
· Report any suspicious behaviour or incidents directly to relevant authorities
· Maintain accurate records through detailed report writing
Key Competencies and Requirements:
- SIA CCTV Public Space Surveillance (PSS) Licence is essential.
- Clean Current driver’s licence essential, manual and automatic preferable.
- Strong observational skills with excellent attention to detail.
- Ability to remain calm, professional, and decisive under pressure.
- Good communication skills (written and verbal).
- High level of integrity, confidentiality, and professionalism.
- Basic IT skills (such as incident logging software, email systems) is essential.
- Experience in community safety, Policing, or local authority settings or a similar role is essential).
- Teamwork, flexibility, adaptability to change and professionalism is integral to the role.
- A minimum of 5 years previous work experience and checkable references is essential.
- Experience of working with Synectics software system.
· Candidates MUST have previous experience in a CCTV control room and preferably experience in using a radio linked to the Police.
· Local knowledge of the area would be an advantage.
· The ideal candidate will have a keen eye for detail and a proactive approach to surveillance operations.
· Proficient in surveillance techniques and equipment operation.
· Ability to respond calmly and effectively in high-pressure situations.
· Strong attention to detail and observational skills.
· Excellent written and verbal communication skills for report writing.
Scheduling
· Ability to commit to work a rolling roster consisting of both nights and days over a 24/7 basis.
· Shift times are as follows and flexibility on days is required. 4 shifts a week on average will be allocated to the successful applicant
· Applicants must have flexibility on shifts they will be 4 consecutive days or night from 7-7 (12 hours shifts) amounting to 50 hours per week
