What You'll Do

You will be supporting the development and execution of commercial sourcing strategies to optimise the supply chain and deliver value for the business. You will collaborate with the Technology Supply Chain and Logistics functions to source services and products that align with Sainsbury's 'Plan for Better' agenda, focusing on optimising and decarbonising the Group supply chain. In this role, you will lead multiple commercial tenders and negotiations, ensuring that sourcing activities are executed in accordance with Sainsbury's Procurement Policy. Additionally, you will contribute to the development of complex commercial strategies, conduct supplier appraisal and selection, and provide analytical support across category areas. The role takes ownership of the end-to-end procurement lifecycle

Who You Are

  • You are an experienced professional in procurement or relevant commercial experience, driven by commercial acumen and a desire to build a successful career in procurement.
  • You possess a strong understanding of procurement principles and techniques, including leading strategic sourcing activities, having worked in a commercial environment and managed suppliers and stakeholders.
  • Your excellent communication skills and ability to work as part of a cross-functional team allow you to effectively influence others and drive business change.
  • With your experience in managing end-to-end commercial tenders and leading negotiations with suppliers, you are adept at developing and executing sourcing strategies that deliver value for money and support the optimisation and decarbonisation of the Group's supply chain.
  • Your attention to detail, basic legal knowledge, and adherence to procurement policies ensure that all commercial activities are completed in line with Sainsbury's standards.
  • You have experience negotiating with third parties with a level of knowledge on contract law
  • Resilient and adaptable, supporting Sainsbury's to adapt during times of change within a dynamic, exciting and fast paced environment.
  • Whilst a level of procurement technology and/or supply chain procurement technology background would be desirable, it is certainly not essential.

How I Will Succeed

  • Being persistently curious to understand key cost drivers within your category and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Deliver value beyond just the numbers by making the most of your supplier and stakeholder relationships.

  • Balance the needs of your stakeholders, the business, customers and colleagues in all of your decisions
  • Quantify and evaluate the cost/benefit of different options in order to optimise sourcing outcomes for Sainsbury’s Group
  • Within business governance framework, deliver business as usual activity such as supplier appraisal and selection, contract terms, negotiations and supplier management.
