Assessor/Tutor (Freelance) – Residential Childcare

In this role, you will be responsible for managing a case load of up to 40 learners. This will include online assessments, on-site observations, completing progress reviews, and providing study support. Maintaining communications with lecturers and overseeing e-portfolios.
You will act as an assessor to groups of learners up to and including level 5. This role will require you to assess workplace performance as well as candidate portfolio building. We will require the successful candidate to work in partnership with our business to ensure learner completion to the highest quality.
You will be managing a caseload of Residential Childcare Learners both remotely (via telephone, video, email) and visits to the learner in their place of work.
Responsibilities:
· Manage a caseload of up to 40 Residential Childcare learners, supporting them through qualifications from Level 2 up to and including Level 5
· Conduct online assessments and in-person workplace observations to assess competency
· Complete regular progress reviews and provide tailored study support to meet individual learner needs
· Guide learners in developing and maintaining high-quality e-portfolios
· Liaise effectively with lecturers, employers, and internal quality assurance teams to ensure consistent delivery standards
· Monitor learner progress, identify barriers to achievement, and implement appropriate support strategies
· Ensure timely completion of all assessment documentation in line with awarding body and organisational requirements
· Maintain up-to-date knowledge of sector standards and best practices
· Promote safeguarding, equality, diversity, and inclusion in all aspects of the role
· Attend standardisation meetings and training sessions as required to maintain quality and compliance
Skills and Qualifications:
- D32 / 33 or A1, CAVA units or equivalent
- Recognised Teaching Qualification e.g. PGCE, CERT Ed, AET, CET, DET or equivalent is desirable
- IQA Level 4 Qualification is desirable
- Relevant qualifications in subject area(s)
- Occupationally competent in accordance with Awarding Body guidelines
- Ability to prioritise workloads.
- Ability to use initiative and be flexible in approach.
- Experience of mentoring, coaching, delivering training or supporting personal development to learners
- Full driving licence
- Excellent communication and people skills as well as good time management in order to manage a flexible schedule
- Home Based – Regular travel around allocated provisions
- A mixture of home working/remote and visiting learners in their place of work
- Experience of assessing to level 3 is essential and up to and including level 5 would be desirable
- You will be from a health and children’s social care background with an understanding of the various key stakeholders in this type of sector. Experience working as a team leader or manager in residential children’s homes is a significant asset- desirable.
