Job Title: Activities Coordinator
Location: The Manse Nursing Home, Kirkham
Reports To: Home Manager
Hours: Full-Time
Salary: £12.50 per hour
Job Purpose:
To plan, coordinate, and deliver a range of stimulating, person-centred activities that support the physical, emotional, and cognitive well-being of residents, including those living with dementia. The Activities Coordinator plays a vital role in enhancing residents’ quality of life through meaningful engagement tailored to individual needs and abilities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and implement a varied programme of daily group and one-to-one activities, taking into account the interests, histories, and capabilities of all residents, including those with dementia.
- Create dementia-friendly activities that support memory, reduce anxiety, and encourage social interaction.
- Work closely with care staff to integrate meaningful activity into daily routines and individual care plans.
- Build strong relationships with residents to understand their life stories, enabling personalised engagement that supports cognitive stimulation and emotional well-being.
- Encourage participation from all residents, adapting approaches to suit individual needs, particularly those with advanced dementia or limited mobility.
- Organise events and entertainment, including seasonal celebrations, music sessions, reminiscence therapy, arts and crafts, and sensory-based activities.
- Liaise with families to gather insight and encourage their involvement in events and resident engagement.
- Keep accurate records of participation and progress, and contribute to reviews and care planning.
- Ensure all activities are safe, inclusive, and compliant with CQC regulations and infection prevention protocols.
- Manage resources effectively, including budgets, equipment, and supplies.
- Maintain links with local community groups, volunteers, and entertainers to enrich the home’s activity programme.
Person Specification:
Essential:
- Experience working with older adults, particularly those living with dementia
- Knowledge of person-centred and dementia-friendly activity planning
- Compassionate and enthusiastic approach with excellent communication skills
- Ability to build rapport and trust with residents, including those who may be withdrawn or have communication difficulties
- Strong organisational and time-management skills
- Able to work independently and collaboratively with the care team
- Basic IT skills for planning, record-keeping, and communication
Desirable:
- Qualifications in dementia care, activities provision, or health and social care (e.g., Level 2 or 3)
- Training in reminiscence therapy, music therapy, or sensory stimulation
- Understanding of CQC standards related to activities and well-being
Additional Information:
- An enhanced DBS check will be required.
- Ongoing training and development opportunities in dementia care and activity planning are provided.
- Some evening, weekend, or public holiday work may be required for special events or outings.
