Academic Tutor (First Year)

Salary from £42,679 to £51,000 pa inclusive with potential to progress to £54,730 pa inclusive of London allowance

This is a fixed term appointment for 24 months and is part time for 21 hours per week (0.6FTE).

Start date September 2025.

The Department of Geography and Environment is seeking to appoint an Academic Tutor to support undergraduate students, with a particular focus on first-year transition, progression and development.

This role is central to enhancing academic confidence, engagement, and progression through tailored support and collaborative programme development.

The post holder will deliver tailored academic support and guidance, contribute to programme and Department-related activities, and collaborate with colleagues across the School to enhance student experience and academic success.

Candidates should have:

• Experience of teaching or tutorial role in Geography, Environment, Economics or a related field
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey complex information clearly and sensitively.
• Proven ability to work collaboratively with academic and professional services colleagues and contribute to departmental initiatives.
• Proven commitment and ability to provide a consistently high standard of service to internal and external customers.
• Ability to use initiative to solve problems and address the concerns of students with flexibility, timeliness and sensitivity.
